Sun's Out in NZ but so's the Ozone Hole

Sun's Out in NZ but so's the Ozone Hole

Posted by Jody Burke on

I've got my sunhat on, my flip-flops ready, and guess what? Spring is knocking on our doors. It's time to bask in the lovely NZ sun and get our dose of vitamin D. But wait – I've got some shocking news for you!

Hold onto your sunhats because scientists have dropped a bombshell: the ozone layer has opened up sooner and might stick around a tad longer than we'd like. Yup, you heard me right!

Now, before we start reconsidering our spring plans, let's remember: Knowledge is Power. While our sun is a stunner, it's responsible for a whopping 70% of aging to our skins here in NZ. But, fear not, I've got a secret weapon for you: Sunblock. And not just any sunblock. Make sure it packs a 20% zinc punch. Why? Because zinc isn't just content with blocking UVA and UVB rays. It’s a superstar that also blocks the heat of the skin.

You might be wondering why that's important. Here's a scorching fact: Heat acts like a sneaky carrier. On those extra toasty days, UVA and UVB can ride the heat wave and cause even more damage. Yikes!

So, as we all get ready to dance under the spring sun, remember to slather on that sunblock. Your skin will thank you, and honestly, future you will too.

My recommended sunscreen to try this Summer is our Tizo block 20% Zinc.
