Beyond the Surface, Navigating Scar Revision.

 Hey there skin lovers,

Before delving into treatment options for scar revision, it's essential to understand how scars form and their impact on people.

"Whenever we violate the skin, there's some sort of scar," notes Jody Burke at About Skin. "With true scars, you should see a line or distinction in the area where the skin was cut or injured."  Not all scars are the same. You can have standard linear scars that are flat or hypertrophic scars that become thick, just on the line of the scar.

When it comes to acne, these scars take on different shapes. Common acne scars can include depressed atrophic scars, angular boxcar scars, rolling scars, and ice pick scars.

How to Treat Keloid Scarring,

While scars can appear on all skin tones, individuals with more melanin are particularly susceptible to certain types of scars. People with darker skin types are more prone to forming raised, thickened scars called keloids.

“Keloids can appear anywhere from the earlobe to the chest, back, shoulders, and even the legs,” notes Jody Burke. “These are thick scars, they are triggered by trauma to the skin. They may form after procedures such as C-sections, tummy tucks, breast implants or face lifts”

Individuals with deeper skin tones are more susceptible to developing elevated keloid scars that extend beyond the wound’s original boundaries. “Darker skin tones have more fibroblasts, these are the cells responsible for producing collagen. Collagen is the protein responsible for giving the skin its elasticity"explains Jody, "However, the issue with scarring arises when fibroblasts work overtime.  A consequence of having more fibroblasts is that they can become overstimulated, leading to the formation of keloids,” Jody adds.

The Options for Scar Revision for Darker Skin types,

When it comes to scar revision for dark skin, a variety of treatment options are available. However, no treatment is one-size-fits-all. The right treatment plan will be personalized for your specific needs and goals. All treatments, including in-clinic treatments, will require patience.

We deeply understand how scars can be depressing and upsetting for anybody that has them anywhere on their face, neck, or body.  Some noninvasive treatments include , laser, and topical treatment serums. Invasive treatments include fractional sublative, injectable treatments, dermal needling chemical peels, and surgery.  No matter what treatments you are getting, don’t forget the importance of using sunblock with 20 percent zinc  daily and remember to reapply.  Proper sun protection is crucial for effective scar management and skin health.

Regular application of the Eternal Intensive Renewal Serum can significantly improve the appearance of scars. It should be gently massaged into the scarred area in a circular motion, ideally at night-time when the skin's natural repair processes are most active. Over time, the serum can help to reduce the visibility of scars, making them blend more seamlessly with the surrounding skin.

Xcell Medical Eternal Night Oil is an intensive Renewal Serum that contains potent formulations of:

  • Bakuchiol: Mirrors the regenerative effects of retinol, accelerating renewal and visibly reducing scar tissue.
  • Grapeseed Oil: Fortifies skin elasticity and hydrates deeply, smoothing out scar textures for a more even complexion.
  • Sunflower and Jojoba Seed Oils: These oils boost the skin’s resilience and moisturization, aiding in the rapid recovery of scarred areas.
  • Chamomile Flower Oil: Calms inflammation and diminishes redness around scars, promoting a serene and balanced healing process.

Embrace your journey towards healing and renewal. With the right knowledge and treatments, every scar can be a story of resilience and recovery. Remember, it's not just about treating scars—it's about reclaiming your confidence and complexion.
